Two Moro millennials show deeply personal stories of their town

As the violence settles down in Marawi, its denizens’ stories of struggle and personal tragedy are finally starting to come to light.

The area where Norliah’s house once stood was still considered a dangerous area by the military at the time of her visit to ground zero. She hadn’t seen her house since she left Marawi, and wanted to see what happened to it. She tells a story of how she used to gaze at a nearby basketball court from the third floor of her cousin’s house – she had a crush on a local boy who used to play there. Both her home and her cousin’s home, as well as the basketball court, are likely gone, but her memories remain.Today, though, she can still gaze across the beautiful lake, as she always has. Monsanto Philippines launches SMART Farm program

Farmer training program aims to improve productivity and livelihood of over 20,000 farmers in the country

Farmers gather at one of the SMART demo farms of Monsanto Philippines. The company’s SMART Farm program offers a 2-3 day training in a demo farm, providing farmer participants both lectures and hands-on workshops on how to sustainably plant corn.

Monsanto Philippines launched this month a nationwide farmer training program, dubbed SMART Farm, meant to teach smallholder corn growers across the country best farm management practices and the latest corn planting technologies. In its first year, the program targets to reach out to over 20,000 farmers in different corn regions in the Philippines.    

Jollibee and Jollibee Group Foundation spread hope and joy among Marawi kids

The country’s number one fast-food chain partnered with the Jollibee Group Foundation (JGF) to spread hope and joy last December through the "Magbahagi para sa mga Bata sa Marawi", a Jollibee Maaga ang Pasko special gift-giving program.

Jollibee and JGF volunteers also gave away Jollibee Yumburgers, Red Ribbon treats, toiletries and hygiene kits to more than 500 students from 15 schools who gathered at the Amai Pakpak Central Elementary School.

These Marawi kids are excited to see their toys as they open their bag of gifts.

 

The Marawi students dance and sing to show their gratitude to their Jollibee friends who brought smiles to their faces through gifts of toys, books and other treats.

Marawi children welcome and thank Jollibee for #SharingJoy in their school.

The students and their teachers, school and local Department of Education officials welcomed Jollibee as he delighted everyone with a jolly dance number. The beneficiaries, in turn, showed their appreciation to everyone’s best friend by doing various song and dance numbers.

The gift-giving activity was made possible with the help of the Alrose Group of Companies, Philippine Business for Social Progress, the local government of Marawi, and other volunteers. Other donation partners were Robinsons Department Store, Adarna House, Goodwill Bookstore, Katha Publishing, Rex Bookstore and Vibal Publishing House, Inc.

The program supports Jollibee’s belief in #SharingJoy especially among children, as it fosters love, care and compassion for others.
