About 214 schools across all 17 regions in the Philippines, latest of which are those in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), are being equipped with information and communications technology (ICT) tools and methodologies on 21st-century education through Global Filipino Schools (GFS) program.

The GFS program is part of a long-term partnership between Globe Telecom and the Department of Education (DepEd), meant to forward 21st-century learning principles and ICT integration in public schools nationwide. It aims to transform public high schools into ICT centers of excellence by equipping students and teachers with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed for the 21st century.

Ahead of their 2020 target, Globe and DepEd brought the program to all 17 regions in the Philippines, with ARMM as its final leg.

From Monday, July 23 to Thursday, July 26, program officers from DepEd divisions and teaching representatives from select public elementary and high schools gathered for a four-day teacher training workshop in Cotabato City. Each of the nine school divisions in ARMM was represented in the workshop. A virtual coaching course for all participants will also be held to help them with mastery and application of the learnings.

“Many young Filipinos are unable to make the most of advancement in digital technology when compared with other countries. Through innovative teaching methods and integration of ICT in classrooms, teachers and school leaders can significantly increase the quality of learning in the public sector. This is the main goal of GFS,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications at Globe.

Through the GFS program, schools received free internet connectivity; as well as ICT tools like tablets, projectors, virtual reality (VR) goggles, casting dongles, pocket wifi devices, and a mobile cart. Most importantly, partner schools also received an intensive teacher training program on 21st-century learning approach, ICT integration in classrooms, as well as content  responsible digital citizenship.

Schools in ARMM which are under the program are the following:

  • Maluso National High School (Basilan)
  • Lamitan National High School (Lamitan City)
  • Sultan Guro Memorial National High School (Lanao del Sur 1)
  • Lorenzo Elementary School (Lanao del Sur 2)
  • Malabang National High School (Lanao del Sur 2)
  • Talayan National High School (Maguindanao 1)
  • Bugabungan National High School (Maguindanao 2)
  • Marawi City National High School (Marawi City)
  • Sulu National High School (Sulu)

Under the GFS program, every school beneficiary will serve as a training hub for teachers in the DepEd division the school belongs to. For ARMM, Globe envisions the participating schools to set as an example on how technology can transform education to the 622 public elementary and secondary schools in nine schools divisions in the region, benefitting over 26,000 teachers and over 800,000 students.

To assess its success upon its implementation, a study released by Taylor Nelson Sofres in 2015 showed the GFS program helped improve digital skills among teachers and students, specifically on usage of mobile technology and computer software.

The study also showed that the GFS program enabled 21st-century learning outcomes that involve creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking; increased student engagement in classroom activities; as well as helped enhance school culture through readiness in ICT integration.

Benefits of Why you should Drink and Drive

What should you drink when going for a drive?

Sometimes, drinking and driving isn’t a bad thing

Hunger and thirst are the last things you’d want to experience while driving. When our bodies are dehydrated and low on fuel, we get irritable and frustrated. Getting “hangry” often leads to a rough, terrible, and exhausting trip which can affect driving performance. This is one of the findings from the Shell Driving Experiment, a worldwide study that uses cutting-edge emotional intelligence technology and other applications to uncover how the emotions of drivers affect their performance during everyday rides.

In the Philippines, the experiment showed that feeling hungry or thirsty can impact driving performance, showing that drivers who crave food and hydration don’t perform as well on the road. This decreases the smoothness of a driver’s journey, negatively correlating to a smoother trip score.

This is one of the instances where the combination of drinking and driving isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, with the right beverages, it can be good for you.

Myths and facts about weight-loss supplements

Losing weight requires a lot of dedication and hard work and may involve physical and emotional costs. It is hardly surprising that many prefer the easy route by taking weight-loss supplements. While almost all weight-loss supplements are marketed as beneficial for the body, some may actually be harmful to one’s health.

Nutrition experts debunk certain claims about weight-loss supplements and reveal possible health risks.

Myth #1: Weight-loss supplements are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Truth: The US FDA does not have the authority to review dietary supplement products for safety and effectiveness before they are marketed. It only steps in when a “dietary supplement” is found to contain harmful substances.

Teaching Teachers through Technology

Today’s generation grew up in the age of technology that it has become a natural tool for learning. While traditional methods equip students with the knowledge they need, the use of technology enables students to apply what they’ve learned in a real-world setting. However, more than how technology has transformed learning, the bigger challenge is how educators today who are less tech-savvy than their students can maximize the potential of technology in the classroom.

This is the very challenge that Acer strives to overcome for education in the Philippines. Over 100 schools and universities have partnered with one of the top ICT companies in the world through Acer Academy. The program provides educational institutions around the country access to quality hardware, software and services that can improve the learning system of future professionals.
Aside from coding, teachers also tested some of the 8-application package in the CloudProfessor kit such as the temperature and light sensors, and fans that hones students’ creativity and critical thinking.

earAccess hearing aids to be available in the Philippines

Canadian social enterprise makes high quality hearing aids accessible to Filipinos

Not too many Filipinos are knowledgeable when it comes to detecting possible hearing problems. And even if they are, devices that provide immediate solutions like hearing aids may be out of their reach because of the prohibitive prices.

But it will soon be a thing of the past as Canadian social enterprise earAccess, Inc. makes its high quality yet affordable hearing aids available in the Philippines. The company partnered with FINE Nutrition Trading International, a company known for its various health and well-being products, who will serve as the exclusive local distributor of earAccess hearing aids in the country.

earAccess hearing aids will be formally launched this month, and they will be available initially at select Watsons stores.

Thanks to ACCESS® 1 and ACCESS® 2 hearing aid models being launched, more Filipinos will now have access to high quality, durable and more importantly affordable, hearing aids. Currently, hearing aids are out of reach to many hearing-impaired Filipinos because they are expensive. The high price tag for hearing aids thus acted as a barrier for those with hearing impairment to get the access and relief that hearing aids provide. earAccess will change all of that.

Shaping kids to become young investors for a secured future

As young as they are, children already have their own goals and dreams that they want to achieve. From something as simple as buying the latest toy or gadget, to surprising their parents with a gift on their special day, kids want to have their own money so they can experience the feeling of spending freely.

This is the reason why it is advisable to start them early on their financial journey. As parents of this eager young generation, it is important to guide them as they make their own decisions and show them the value of saving and how to handle their finances wisely.

Building a secure financial foundation
One of the most effective ways parents can first teach their children to save money is by letting them own a piggy bank. Coin banks encourage them to save a portion of their allowance and grow their money over time. In return, kids can use their savings to buy the things they want while at the same time learning the value of patience and perseverance.

Hawker Chan, World’s Cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant, opens in Manila

Metro Manila's bustling dining scene has just zoome several notches higher with the opening of Hawker Chan, also known as the cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant in the world.

This internationally acclaimed Singapore-based restaurant promises to rock the Philippine: with its gloriously delicious dishes. especially its soya chicken rice.

Hawker Chan's global popularity belies its humble beginnings. The restaurant was foundec by Malaysian Chef Chan Hong Meng, the son of a farmer, who flew to Singapore in the 1980s and trained under a Hong Kong chef. It was under his mentor’s guidance that he learned to prepare the now famous Singapore Soya Sauce Chicken and Noodle.

In 2009, Chan Hong Mong opened a small store at the Chinatown Complex, the largest open-air hawker centre in Singapore, where he served soya sauce Chicken rice a dish that quickly caught the imagination of diners across Singapore. Through the years, Chan Hong

Mong painstakingly refined his recipe, to the delight of diners who lined up hours on end at the stall.

In July of 2016. Michelin's Singapore Guide debuted and among those recognized was Hawker Chan, making it the cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant in the world. Just this month, Liao Fan Hawker Chan at 78 Smith Street in Singapore was among the 50 restaurants included in the 2018 Bib Gourmand Awards, which recognizes eateries with menu items that cost no more than S$45, for their value for money.

As Hawker Chan opens its doors at SM Mall of Asia in the Philippines, Filipinos can look forward to the same mouthwatering dishes that have captivated people across the region. Thanks to Foodee Global Concepts, the industry maverick that has transformed the Filipino dining scene with groundbreaking offerings such as the Michelin-starred Tim Ho Wan, FOO’D By Davide Oidani, Tsuta Japanese Soba Noodles and Llaollao’s unique Spanish frozen yogurt. Pinoys can look fon/vard to the best tasting dishes. That’s because Foodee Global Concepts recognized Filipinos’ love and curiosity for food, and responded by bringing to the country the offerings of top-rated restaurants that have won the hearts of people around the world.

Among the dishes that diners can look forward to at Hawker Chan Manila are its signature combination platter of char siew, roasted pork, and pork rib, and the whole chicken platter. What makes this even more exciting is that these dishes are priced to be extremely pocketfriendly. On the average, the price range per dish is only PHP 100.00 to 150.00!

“We've seen how Filipinos try to visit the top-rated restaurants whenever they travel, so we thought why not bring these restaurants to the country? Since Pinoys love to visit Hawker Chan in Singapore, we thought we'd bring it here, and offer the same combination of great food and affordable luxury to them,” said FOODEE Global Concepts CEO, Mr. Rikki Dee.

Located at the Ground Floor, Entertainment Mall at SM Mall of Asia Complex, the restaurant seats 86 and is perfect for those who want a great. affordably-priced, hearty meal.

To add to the excitement. Hawker Chan customers will get a chance to fly to Singapore every time they dine at Hawker Chan Manila from July 26 to August 5, 2018. Two (2) lucky

winners will get a chance to Fly to Singapore and enjoy a 3 days 2 nights full board and meal stay. sponsored by FOODEE Global Concepts Inc. and the Singapore Tourism Board.

2018 Asia ECOMM Summit Brings Industry Experts Under One Roof

The disruptive innovations and trends that come with the birth of e-commerce was the primary focus at the 2018 Asia ECOMM Summit held July 11, 2018 at the Marriot hotel in Pasay City.

The forum, with the theme “At First, Disruption Looks Like a Toy”,  was spearheaded by LBC Business Solutions, the leading name in logistics in the country, in partnership with Asia CEO Events, the nation’s largest business events organization.

The conference was deemed timely, as more and more Filipino consumers are leaning towards e-commerce for their various needs- from food, apparel, tourism, real estate and pharma to even weddings, funerals and farming. E-commerce is not just becoming more trendy, it’s becoming more necessary as it offers a wider variety in terms of products and prices--while saving them from the woes of traffic and long line as the items can be delivered right at their doorstep.

This year’s Asia ECOMM Summit featured the nation’s most notable CEOs who have revolutionized the way they do business through the e-commerce platform.  Among the highly-reputed companies which delivered talks before the hundreds of executives who attended the conference were Microsoft, Quad X, VeritasPay, ABS-CBN Publishing and Security Bank, who all shared their experiences and expertise on e-commerce culled from their day-to-day operations.

Asia CEO President Rebecca Bustamante says: “The E-Commerce Forum is the most convenient platform to bring to light the breakthroughs and challenges that beset e-commerce,  and find means to resolve its glitches that stunt the fast paced growth of their businesses”.

But most importantly, we now have apps that bring us one of our basic needs as human beings -- food!

At a Piip of a button, we get access to a long list of menu from almost all of the restaurants in the metro. Make reservations in no time, and even have take-outs or the groceries delivered right in front of our doorstep. Take a break from breakouts: Let Diana Stalder Anti-acne Kit

cne, also known as acne vulgaris, occurs when hair follicles are clogged with dead skin cells and oil from the skin. It is characterized by blackheads or whiteheads, pimples, oily skin, and possible scarring. It primarily affects areas of the skin with a relatively high number of oil glands, including the face, upper part of the chest, and back. Acne breakouts can plague you throughout your teens and 20s; It may haunt you still at your 30s. Some may be pimple free but had pimples at 30s, that is adult acne and yes, acne is not only for teens.

Adult acne are commonly caused by hormonal change, stress, heredity, sensitive skin and diet.

Hormones. Any change in your hormone level can cause acne breakout. Male hormones in both men and women tend to increase during puberty, pregnancy and menopause, causing the oil glands to enlarge and produce more oil.

Stress. Experts say stress can lead to acne by signaling the release of cortisol, a hormone that helps produce more pore-clogging oil.

Hereditary. Unfortunately, some of us are simply predisposed to have acne.

Sensitive skin. Products that are too heavy for your skin can easily block the pores and cause acne breakout.

Diet. While unhealthy diet certainly doesn’t help acne, avoid acne-causing food and drink plenty of water.

While you think it is easy to get rid of the zits, it is not. With thorough research and development and clinical studies, Diana Stalder came out with products to help you achieve a clean and clear skin.
