Where to Take your dad on a Manila foodtrip this Father’s Day

Are you looking for something different to do this Father’s Day? We bet your dad loves to eat, and if there’s any place that’s great for dad’s day foodtrips, it’s the city of Manila. Everywhere you look, there’s a new place to eat waiting to be discovered—we couldn’t think of a better way to bond with your pops than by breaking bread with him.

Here are some suggestions for some good Manila eats from Ivan Man Dy from tour agency Old Manila Walks.

1.         Arthur’s Restaurant

Is your dad craving for some Filipino-Chinese grub? Head over to Binondo through the LRT-1 and get down at Carriedo station. The historical Filipino-Chinese enclave will be a jeep ride or a few minutes’ walk away, and waiting for you there is Arthur’s Restaurant at Ongpin Street, which is well-known for their mustasa rice.

2.         Junairah Halal Restaurant

If you and your dad are feeling a little more adventurous, check out this authentic halal Maranao place in Quiapo called Junairah Halal Restaurant. It’s also accessible via the LRT-1 Carriedo station. Try their balbacua, which is the Filipino bulalo but made with turmeric.

3.         9 Spoons

Let’s say you took a family tour of Intramuros. Cap off your experience in the Walled City by  hitting up 9 Spoons at the Bayleaf Hotel, best known for their buffet and breathtaking views of Manila. Intramuros is easily accessible through the Central LRT-1 station.

4.         Mr. Poon Cantonese Restaurant

Looking for something that’s a little more hole-in-the-wall, because your dad’s a bit of an Anthony Bourdain fan? Or just want some good noodles? Mr. Poon Cantonese Restaurant in Malate by way of the Pedro Gil LRT-1 station is the blace to be. Order their beef tendon noodles for a slice of heaven.

5.         Café Alicia

You just want to chow down and bond over some comfort food with your dad. How about Café Alicia at the Orchid Garden Suites in Malate? Just take the Vito Cruz LRT-1 stop and eat to your heart’s delight with their selection of Filipino and international cuisine.

Whatever you choose, you’re going to walk away with some good memories with dad this Father’s Day when you eat your way through Manila!
